
As this drawing above shows this site is most famous for its Holy Well, which was blessed by St.Olcan and its amber pebbles which are crystals of Gypsum. According to local tradition the pebbles were said to have great powers, they were used by women to protect them during childbirth, men from drowning and your house from fire and burglary. During the last century emigrants going to America belived that if you swallowed a pebble, they would sail safely accross the Atlantic ocean.
Also to this day the healing tradition of attaching cloths ect to the overhanging trees and bushes continues. According to custom you must bathe the infected part of the body with a piece of cloth dipped in the well. Then you must pray and then tie the cloth to one of the trees or bushes. As the cloth decays, the infected is supposed to heal.



As you can see from the two photographs, the tradition continues.
