Hello there my name
is Karen and I would like to invite you into Pogue's Entry on this day Friday
8th June 2007. Pogue's Entry is steeped in history in the Alexander Irvine
lived and spent his childhood in this very cottage. Alexander Irvine became
an author and the one he is famous for is called "My Lady of the Chimney
Corner."
Now as everyone
knows a town must have a blacksmith and here we have David Herron showing
his skills.
Concentrating hard making butter is Lauren
Johnston.
"Many hands make light work"
Is an old saying and Lauren is quite happy
that Maureen Johnston is patting the butter into shape and then it was sold
to the customer in greaseproof paper.
Now this what it is all
about running home from school to find your mum making pancakes and soda bread.
Nothing nicer than biting into a warm soad bread and the butter running down
the sides of your face! ..This is when you wish
you could smell the baking and of course the peat.
Here Marian Greg
is just putting a little bit of sugar on the pancake.
Please Marian as
Oliver Twist said " Can I have some more?"
Having eaten his fill
of pancakes from the griddle the memories flood back and bring a smile to
his face of an era when neighbours were friends who never locked a door!
Making his thread so he
can start mend some boots is William the Cobbler, now William was not only
good at mending boots he also is a good chanter and we had the pleasure of
his voice.
Now with our stomachs
content we sat in the shade listening to the lovely foot-tapping music played
by Davy Sloan and Willie Drennan.
Sitting here in the shade enjoying the
music are Samuel and Evelyn McNeice. Evelyn shows what has not changed over
the centuries, the love for a good man.
