This
is antrim's Round Tower, known locally as the 'Steeple' and is one of the
finest round tower in Ireland. As you can see from the Past photo only the
surroundings have changed. The windows by the way each face all the Cardinal
points of the compass and most of the tower was built with basalt sone brought
from Tardree. The original cone was made of granite and has a stone spear
on the top of it but in 1819 the cone was shattered by lightning and was replaced
with Tardree stone by William Clarke of Steeple House but for the capstone
he used part of a stone lintel from the old Aentrobh's Church.
