The Belfast & Ballymena Railway Company trains started to arrive in Antrim Station in 1848 when you think of it, that is 159 years ago! the arrival of the trains to Antrim greatly increased the tourism trade and the main four hotels enjoyed this extra trade. It also enabled local farm produce to be exported and also helped the Linen industry here to expand. However some local industries did suffer because in some cases traind brought in cheaper and better goods, one such industry was the Antrim Brewery. In 2001 the main line to Belfast was reopened cutting the time to Belfast dramatically.
