Hall's hotel was originally the Adair Hotel and was bought by the Wilson's around 1928 and ended up embracing two other hotels called the Kings Arms and the Massereene Arms Hotel. In the 1930's Bob wilson built five stories at the back and three at the front, including a ballroom and 40 bedrooms to cope with the trade then. then they bought the Massereene Arms in 1963 and eventually joined up the top storeys with Hall's hotel. Back in the 1930's there were always jaunting cars outside to take the tourists to see the local beauty spots and places of interest and the late Harry Saynor was responsible for the jaunting cars. Ashworth's charabanc buses were also parked there and they were a great attraction. Five buses left the hotel every morning to tour the North of Ireland, there were also trips to The Glens of Antrim on Mondays, Portrush on Tuesdays, Dublin on Thursdays and Whitehead on Sundays. The Hall's Hotel had been a great meeting place over the years to 'Antrim Bridge Club', the 'Rotary Club and the 'Round Table' as for dinner dances the 'Pigen Clubs' and clubs of all denominations all held their dances here, also the 'Killultagh Harriers and 'Massereene Nurses'. 'Antrim Hockey Club' had their headquarters there until they opened clubrooms in Antrim Castle grounds. Many famous personalities have either stayed or dined in Hall's Hotel, the late 'Lord Faulkner', 'James Molyneaux M.P'., 'Rev. Ian Paisley M.P.', Gerry Fitt M.P.', 'William Craig M.P.' and 'Billy Flackes', political correspondent. The list continues with entertainment stars, 'Gilbert Harding', George Formby' who entertained the troops during the Second World War, 'Acker Bilk' the musician, dance band leader 'Humphrey Lyttleton', 'Wilfred Pickles and his wife Mabel' of radio fame, the maiden city's singing star 'Dana' and 'Mary McKee' the Gospel singer. You also had the "T.T." racing riders including 'Mike Halewood', 'Geoff Duke'and 'Ron Flockhart' together with German and Japanese riders.World Champion formula One driver 'Mike Hawthorne'.When Antrim Castle burned down in 1922 'Lord and Lady Massereene' had a suite of rooms there until coltworthy House was fitted out for them. Frequent visitors also were 'Lord and Lady Dunleath', 'Lord Hamilton' and 'Mrs Irvine Buick', daughter of Dr. Alexander Irvine author of "My Lady of the Chimny Corner" and other books. during the World War II American and British Army officers also stayed here. In 1972 High Street the was bombed and the Hotel was closed for eight weeks and again in 1974, this time it only received superficial damage. They used to have great trade and more so when the new airport opened but when they put in the M2 and redirected the traffic away from Antrim town it was the beginning of the end for the hotel. Sadly in 1978 it closed its doors for the last time as it had been bought by the Wellworth group and was pulled down to make way for their shop and later on they too fell by the wayside. The people of Antrim sadly missed the closing of the hotel as it was a great place to eat and of a Saturday night a great place for the weekly dances. It was that good that they used to run special buses from the City Hall in Belfast to the Hotel and back again after the dance. The local would be there to meet the buses hoping to spot new talent to meet at the dance. The 'Rythm Rascals' were a regular group who played there consisting of local people, 'John Nutt', Leslie Allen', John Carson'(drummer) and 'Frankie Boal'; 'Jimmy Beggs' provided the resident orchestra.

Here is a list of some of the staff who worked in the hotel, I know there are more so please feel free to email me so I can amend the list and also if you have photos inside or outside of the hotel, in fact anywhere around Antrim, I would like to copy them to preserve our local history.
