The Past photo was taken when the snow lay thick on the
ground, this is unusual view of Antrim Castle Grounds. To the left, with its
neatly clipped hedges, is the Motte - but how many people can recall the striking
building in the background? It was actually the purpose-built circular 'Band
Room' for the local town band to practice in which was constructed under orders
from Viscount Massereene. Who also supplied the members with instruments which
sadly seem to have disappeared - the band became known as 'The Massereene
Brass and Reed Band' and all were very accomplished musicians. Inside the
circular band room the seating ran right round the wall so that they sat in
a circle facing each other.
