In
the Present day photograph you can see that the Hotel no longer exists as
it was destroyed by fire in the spring of 1938 and because of the outbreak
of World War Two it was never rebuilt. The Past photograph was taken in the
1920's and was a publicity photo to promote the hotel. The hotel was owned
by Sam Fawcett and they ran tours all over the North and South of Ireland.
Looking at the photo they must have done well as there are ten coaches and
eight of them have no roofs! must have been good weather back then. Did they
have lady coach drivers as it you look closely at the coach on the left you
will see a lady behind the wheel, good for her if it is correct. The three
storey hotel must have been impressive as in 1902 it boasted the largest dining
roon in town seating 100 people, in 1929 it was reported that 6,000 tourists
had been catered for, most of the tourists were mill workers from Lancashire,
England.
